New KFC Ad Racist? You Decide
The ad in question is for the Australian KFC branch, which shows a cricket player in a crowd of West Indian fans. In an effort to get more comfortable amid the opposition, the cricket player offers up the KFC “crowd pleaser” bucket. However, Americans who’ve seen the ad via YouTube have called the ad extremely racist, where fried chicken and African Americans have long been a heated stereotype.
So you tell us, do you think this KFC ad could be considered racist? Obviously the ad wasn’t meant to reach the US market, and it received no negative response in Australia where it was originally added, but do the cultural stereotypes of one region pertain to another, regardless of significance?
